Area8

Import your tasks

Bring the list you already keep somewhere else.

Area8 can bring in the tasks you already keep somewhere else. It works in two parts. First you export a file on a computer, then you pick that file in Area8 on your phone.

Nothing is sent anywhere. The file is read on your phone, by the app, and that is the end of it.

Microsoft To Do

  1. Do this part on a computer, using the classic desktop Outlook app.

Microsoft To Do itself has no export button, and the new Outlook app cannot export. The classic desktop Outlook can.

  2. Your To Do tasks appear in that Outlook under Tasks, because they are the same tasks.
  3. In Outlook choose File, then Open and Export, then Import/Export.
  4. Choose Export to a file, then Comma Separated Values.
  5. Pick your Tasks folder, then save the file somewhere you can find it again.
  6. Send the file to your phone however you like. Then open Area8, go to Backup, and choose Import tasks from a file.

Todoist

  1. Open the project you want to bring across.
  2. Open the project menu.
  3. Choose Export as a template.
  4. Choose Export as CSV.
  5. Send that file to your phone, then pick it in Area8 the same way, under Backup and choose Import tasks from a file.

What comes across

  • The task name.
  • Any notes on it.
  • The due date.
  • The priority.
  • Whether it is already done.

Tasks that are already finished come across too, and arrive marked done, so you keep the history rather than starting from an empty list.

If a list name has a store number in it, those tasks land on that store. Area8 never guesses who a task belongs to.

Before anything is added

Area8 shows you what is in the file first, with counts of what it found. Nothing is added until you tap Import.

Importing the same file twice updates what is already there instead of making duplicates, so a second go is safe.

If something does not look right, nothing has been changed yet. Just tap Cancel.
